The Landscape
Nestled in the rugged terrain of the South Texas Brush Country, this ranch in Del Rio features a mix of dense mesquite thickets, rolling hills, and open pastures. The region’s combination of dry creek beds, oak mottes, and native grasses creates the perfect habitat for wild turkeys. Expect wide skies, beautiful sunsets, and the peaceful quiet of the open countryside.
The Birds
This area is home to the Rio Grande turkey, a subspecies known for its long legs, bronze-tinged plumage, and loud, resonating gobble. These birds are plentiful in South Texas, thanks to the region’s thriving wildlife management efforts and abundant natural resources. Gobblers can weigh up to 20 pounds and are often seen strutting proudly through open fields.
