Description

New Zealand Red Stag

The best free range hunting in New Zealand is on privately owned and managed hunting areas. On these areas the animals are managed for trophy quality and size. We have access to the best areas in New Zealand and we are consistently producing record book class trophies for our clients.

For the more adventurous types – we offer free range foot hunts for tahr, chamois and fallow deer on the most elite high country properties where your hunt will be unmatched by any in the world

We offer the finest red stag hunting in New Zealand. We have produced several former world records - and there will be more. Over the last few seasons, New Zealand's largest red stags have been harvested on our property.

SCI gold medal benchmarks will vary from year to year; at the time of writing a gold medal stag starts near SCI 361. A gold medal stag will typically carry more than 20 points and is a very impressive animal.

When a stag roars it is a gutteral, hair-raising, lion-like roar that will be sure to get your heart racing.

To hunt a roaring stag at close quarters is one of the world’s most unforgettable hunting experiences.

Current SCI score for a red stag to qualify for a silver medal is SCI 291-360.

The silver medal stags typically carry from 16 to 20 points. Aggressive and confrontational, the red stag will react to the hunter’s call, and can be drawn to open ground where a shot can be taken.

Our method of hunting is spot and stalk, which is suitable for both rifle and bow hunting.

Our free range hunts are based from lodge, back country huts or tent camps. We will recommend a realistic timeframe for the species and area that you wish to hunt. Access to the hunting areas is by 4WD or helicopter.

Base Price is for a 5 Day/4 Night Red Stag up to 360 SCI. See Additional Fees for adding game or size.

"Five out of five stars. Wow. I came to see New Zealand, and for a gold medal stag. I’ll be back for the people. During my hunt, I wondered whether I was getting some additional special treatment because of the Covid delay. But no, from reading others’ testimonials, it sounds like most everyone gets to enjoy a similar first-class experience. Carla is an absolute joy to associate with, and I was in awe of Ewie’s skills, from his spotting, to caping, field-dressing, and finally packing (not to mention he’s also an exceptionally nice person). It was so fun to be a part of their world for a few days, and I couldn’t be happier with my stag, fallow, and tahr. This trip exceeded my expectations in every way, and I still can’t wipe this smile off my face." - Wayne M

"What can I say? We had an unforgettable trip made possible by great mangagement from Carla and world class guiding by Tim. The scenery, the wildlife, the hunting, everything was top of the line!" - Calle W

Joy's Trip

Joy C

Joy grew up on a multigenerational family sheep farm in Waikaka (Southland) New Zealand where her love for the outdoors and wildlife started and now living in central Otago, this love has grown into a passion. Joy developed a keen interest in hunting at a young age while out shooting with her father and brothers to provide food for their large family of 10 and has spent much of her years hunting pigs and deer in the outback of Australia. Now back in New Zealand, Joy enjoys time with her husband and two young boys collecting kai - whether that’s foothill hunting, fishing, diving or catching yabbies. Not only is Joy a full time Mum and manager of NZTH, but she also does night shifts for St. John’s ambulance as a first responder where she has a certification in emergency management. Joy has a great love for New Zealand and a fantastic knowledge of everything it has to offer for local and overseas hunters and non-hunters, so give Joy a call today to make your dream of hunting/touring New Zealand a reality.
