Lake Aguamilpa Bass Fishing

2-Anglers/Boat/Room - Single Accommodations Available

Lake Aguamilpa is located up the Nayarit’s Mountain chain, 30 miles northeast of Tepic, at an elevation of more than 2,600 feet above sea level. This lake is home to colorful parrots and many exotic creatures, as well as four beautiful waterfalls. The lake also has Cayman in the rivers. It is 70 miles long with 330 miles of shoreline and a lot of coves. Lake Aguamilpa is hands down one of the most beautiful lakes and is one of the best Mexico bass fishing lakes in the world. The lake record is 14 lbs 6 oz. To date, anglers can expect to catch 50-100 bass per boat per day.

Lake Aguamilpa is full of Florida strain bass averaging in the 5 to 7-pound range. A few 10 to 12-pounders have been caught. The lodge furnishes boats/guides, 2 rods (bring your own reels), lodging, all meals, and international drinks.

Most Mexican bass fishing anglers use traditional bass fishing methods, but fly fishing is also popular.

The Lodge at Lake Aguamilpa

We provide first-class accommodations for all Mexico bass fishing anglers, which include an air-conditioned facility complete with plenty of hot water for a shower in a private bath, as well as great service and delicious cuisine! It provides purified water and ice, and plenty of complimentary beer and margaritas for your enjoyment. All of the comforts of home are provided. The resort holds up to 56 guests, and it's a quick trip down the hill to the boats.

The view from the lodge is one of the best seen in Mexico. Also if you or someone in your group likes massages, the lodge offers this service for $50.00 per massage as well to accommodate anyone in your group.

There is only 1 lodge on the lake and it has room for 33 anglers.

A typical day at the lodge begins with a wake-up knock at the door with coffee, followed by eating a great breakfast; or if you want to go right out to fish, the cook will make you breakfast-to-go to eat out on the water. You will fish until lunchtime; then you will have the option to be brought back to the lodge for lunch. If you prefer to stay on the lake all day, lunch will be prepared for you to take on the boat. The lodge has a full bar as well for you to enjoy at any time. You can also choose if you want to nap or just want to go right back out. After-lunch time is the best time on some days when anglers have caught their biggest bass. Early morning is the best time for topwater on this lake as well. At about dark the guide will bring you back to the lodge where you will have an awesome dinner with drinks from the full bar. Then if you would like, the lodge offers a lot of sitting areas to enjoy your friends and family after dinner until it's time to go to bed.

The Travel

The best way to get here from the US is to fly straight to Tepic Airport (TPQ). on American, Delta. or Aero Mexico just 45 minutes from the lake where our driver will pick you up.

Or you can fly to Puerta Vallarta (PVR) or Guadalajara (GDL) by several other airlines where the lodge will have one of their drivers meet you as you arrive. Both airports are approximately 3 to 3 1/2 hours from the lake.

The guests are greeted at the airport by a driver who loads the gear and takes them directly to the resort. Paved roads from all locations make the trip to the lodge smooth and comfortable.

The lodge owner has trained his fishing guides to be on-the-water experts. They are friendly, energetic, courteous, and knowledgeable for the best Mexico bass fishing the anglers will experience.

"Tommy,

I thought I would take the time to express my gratitude for allowing my family and friends to share your wonderful facilities at Lake Aguamilpa.

To some folks fishing is about competition. And while there is a time and place for that. To me fishing is about family. The joy on your child's face when they catch their first fish is priceless. Fishing is about teaching. There is no better place to teach someone to fish than Aguamilpa. I've had the pleasure to teach my Mom (her first cast in Mexico water was 5 lbs), My daughter who loved catching over 50 bass a day, and my Father who after all this years decided it was time to take up fishing. Our most recent trip was with our 8 year old son. He was able to catch 11 fish in 2 hours with one over 4lbs. On our recent trip to Baccarac in February my wife and I were able to catch 687 fish with 44 fish over 7 lbs and 6 over 9 lbs. Your guides are top notch and diffidently work very hard to make sure you catch as many fish as possible. With the numerous trips to your lodges we are greeted with hugs and feel right at home.

Again thank you for your attention to detail and providing access to such wonderful and beautiful places to allow me to bring the joys of fishing to friends and family." - Todd H.

I recently returned from an incredible bass fishing experience at Lake Aguamilpa. From the second we arrived at the lodge to the time we departed the overall quality was nothing less than great. The owner Mario, and the attentive staff never missed a beat in providing us with great food and excellent accommodations! Two of us caught over 400 large mouth bass in three action-packed days. Our guided Javier knew the lake and put us on fish immediately. This was my first trip to Lake Aguamilpa but certainly won't be the last. Thanks again to Mario and his staff for making this an incredibly memorable bass fishing trip!!" - Ernie D

Tipping Policy

A tip (called a "propina" in Spanish) is the best way to show appreciation for good service. Tipping is customary in Mexico and is expected in many situations, though you generally will not get any flak if you neglect to give a tip.

More often than not you will be better off leaving a "collective" gratuity for your entire stay with the LODGE MANAGER AT THE END OF YOUR TRIP than you will tipping service staff and guides individually. The reason for this are not readily apparently, but the include the fact that overtipping to individuals makes it more difficult for the lodge manager to control the expectations (and behavior) of the staff.

At some lodges, guides who have been tipped excessively muscle out.

Safety In Mexico

All of our bass fishing anglers and hunters are picked up at the airport when they arrive and taken directly to the lodge. After their fishing trip is completed, they are returned to the airport. Our lodge owner or his driver stays with them until they are on the plane when leaving.

  • Is it safe to travel to Mexico? - Don't let news stories deter you from traveling to this vibrant Latin American destination. Mexico is a safe country. In general, if you're not taking part in illegal activities or going to the wrong parts of town, you don't have anything to worry about.
  • Mexico is safer than many cities in the US - MORE THAN 150,000 AMERICANS SAFELY VISIT Mexico EVERY DAY. Mexico is safer than many major U.S. cities. Travelers feel relatively safe visiting popular U.S. cities like Miami, Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington D.C, or Atlanta. Visitors from around the world enjoy these vibrant cities in relative, reasonable safety. Yet each of these cities is statistically less safe than Mexico.
  • Media Favoritism versus Facts - New Orleans is often showcased in the news. The FBI reports the murder rate of New Orleans is declining; but it is nearly 4 times higher than all of Mexico and over 5 times higher than Mexico City. New Orleans is still an amazing place to visit and the media is right to encourage tourists to visit this inspirational city. But Mexico is at least as remarkable and there is a clear difference in how each of these compared destinations is portrayed in contemporary news.
