Description

Colorado Elk Hunt GMU 681

2x1 Guided | 5 Hunting Days | 2 Travel Days

The Hunt

We offer a variety of big game hunts as it relates to the license holder. Hunting dates are determined by CPW and we structure packages on five-day hunts with additional "pack in" and "pack out" days. Hunts include campsite accommodations with a tent, cot, chairs, shower tent, human waste tent, camp kitchen, three meals a day, and heat. A professional guide will accommodate hunters and assist with calling, navigating, and game retrieval. Hunters are responsible for travel to and from camp, appropriate clothing for all weather conditions, sleeping bag/pillow, and weapon. Hunts are structured as one guide and two hunters unless otherwise agreed upon.

The Unit

GMU 681 is located in the Rio Grand National Forest, bounded on N by Continental Divide and Arkansas River Divide between North Pass and Poncha Pass; on E by US Highway 285; on S by US Highway 285 and County Highway 114; on W by County Highway 114.

The terrain is moderate to difficult with a mix of heavy timber, low shrubs, and grasses. Camp is located at 9,100 feet and hunts are conducted at about 10,000 feet. Weather is dynamic with a wide range of weather systems that travel through quickly. Expect the unexpected.

License/Draw

Per CPW: "All applicants must first purchase (online, by phone, or in person at sales agents) or hold a qualifying hunting license for the current license year BEFORE applying for either the primary or secondary draws. Draw applications will not be accessible until you purchase your qualifying license. Licenses must be valid for the current license year. A Habitat Stamp will be automatically added when purchasing your qualifying license, if applicable."

Unit 681 is over the counter for elk during archery, 2nd Rifle, and 3rd Rifle seasons. Elk 1st and 4th Rifle and all Deer seasons require a limited license obtained through the draw.

  • The primary draw deadline is typically the first week of April.
  • The secondary draw deadline is June 30th with a 100% priority for youth hunters. This could be a great opportunity for your young one to get a tag that they wouldn't likely get until adulthood.

Applicants who desire Elk 1st or 4th Rifle are typically successful. Applicants for Deer usually require 3 to 23 preference points depending on which season and resident/non-resident. Let us help you navigate this process.

Please Visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website for more information on laws, licenses, and unique hunting options (such as youth extended options and hybrid draw) and/or call us with any questions. We are here to help you feel confident with your hunting process and experience.

Hunt Preparation/Travel/Policies

Hunters are responsible for travel to and from the campsite and/or designated meeting site unless agreed upon with a guide. If the hunter harvests an animal, the guide will assist with field dressing/quartering and packing out. After that, it is the hunter's responsibility to take meat and head/hide to the processor, taxidermist, and/or home. We have some great recommendations.

Necessities include a Variety of warm and cool clothing, an abundance of socks/garments, hunting boots, a hunting pack with knives and game bags, orange gear (rifle seasons), gloves, hat(s), sleeping bag, and pillow, the weapon of choice, and ammo.

Horses will be used for game retrieval, only.

We require an Agreement with Disclosures to be signed by all hunters and Outfitters to establish safety protocol, best practices, and Forest Service guidelines. In this Agreement, it's important to note that HK has a Wound Policy that terminates the hunt if the hunter draws blood. Every effort will be made to retrieve the animal. Alcohol is permitted under certain circumstances. Illegal drug usage is grounds for dismissal and per the Outfitter's discretion.

Price is per person for a 5-Day Colorado 3rd Rifle Elk Hunt. Make it an Archery hunt for an additional fee per person.
