Description

Coleman County and Runnels County in Texas are known for their diverse hunting opportunities and rich wildlife population.

The most common game species in Coleman County include white-tailed deer, wild turkey, feral hogs, javelina, quail, dove, and predators such as coyotes and bobcats.

Axis deer are an exotic species that are not native to Texas, but have been introduced and now have established populations in many areas of the state. They are prized for their meat, which is often compared to venison, as well as their impressive antlers.

Axis deer can be hunted using a variety of methods, including spot-and-stalk, still hunting from a blind, and hunting with dogs. Bow hunting and rifle hunting are both allowed for axis deer in Texas, but there may be specific regulations and restrictions depending on the location and season.

Rio Grande turkeys are a subspecies of wild turkey that are found throughout Texas. They are typically smaller and lighter in color than Eastern wild turkeys, with distinctive white tips on their tail feathers.

Rio Grande turkeys can be hunted using a variety of methods, including calling, spot-and-stalk, and still hunting from a blind. Shotgun hunting is typically the most common method, but archery hunting is also allowed in some areas.

Hunts will be in and around Coleman County and North Runnels County in Texas.

Rules & Guidelines

Hunting License

All hunters must have a valid hunting license. Upland Game Bird Endorsement is required to hunt turkey.

All turkey must be tagged with a tag from the hunter’s license immediately upon harvest, and in a secure manner anywhere on the turkey. Hunters in possession of a digital license and tags should refer to Super Combo Digital Tags for tagging instructions.
