I've been a member since September 2020

I'm a retiring Air Force veteran transitioning to my next career. I've founded my own outfitter that specializes in providing waterfowl hunts and retriever training in South Central Kansas. I'm also a very dedicated Ducks Unlimited volunteer that leads 5 Chapters with around 20 fundraisers per year.

WHY?!?! If I've been asked once, I've been asked a thousand times. Why, Wade? Why get up at 4 on your day off? Why sit in the cold, the wind, the sleet? Why spend hours on dirt roads searching for BIRDS? For years, I didn't even know myself. I just knew I wanted to do it more than anything else in the world. I hunted deer, mostly with a bow for over 20 seasons. What caused me to stop even purchasing a tag for it? Maybe it was the sport. The hunt. The birds. The dogs. And in some ways it was all of those, but those were never the root cause. It took me years to put my finger on it and then when it hit me, it made perfect sense. It was and has always been the RELATIONSHIPS. Camaraderie, team work, friendships....call it what you want but that's the difference. That's the difference between sitting in a tree with a bow by yourself or in a blind with 3 or 4 friends or family. Whether it's the dog work, the volunteering with DU or hunting or scouting. So much of waterfowling is really just about the time spent with the ones you choose to be there with. That's my WHY.
